Experiencing the Baltimore German Christmas Village as a Loyola Student
The German wine (Glühwein) was honestlyso good. It comes warm and spiced andwas perfect for the cold and felt very Christmas-y without being too strong. After trying it, I’d definitely recommend grabbing a bottle for your own holiday parties. It’s easy, cozy, and instantly makes things feel festive.
What stood out most was how the village emphasized tradition and atmosphere rather than consumerism. The attendees enjoyed the space instead of rushing from stall to stall. Live music and decorations helped create a sense of community that felt warm and welcoming. Seeing this tradition brought to Baltimore highlighted how cultural practices can travel and adapt while still maintaining their original meaning.
As a Loyola student, visiting the German Christmas Village reminded me that Baltimore offers cultural experiences that feel both local and global. It was a simple way to step outside campus while still staying close to home. Experiences like this show how the city celebrates diversity and tradition, even during busy seasons, and why students should take advantage of what Baltimore has to offer.
