Brunch vs. Brunch:
Towson Diner vs. The Sassy Skillet

Old-School vs. Local Cool
Towson's brunch scene might not get as much attention as it's nightlife, but for students looking for a weekend treat or a break from Boulder pizza, I'd have two recommend two different, yet scrumptious, brunch spots uptown: Towson Diner v.s The Sassy Skillet. Both are about equally priced ($-$$) for your whole meal, which is typical knowing Brunch prices. Both are satisfying and filling while maintaining a cozy hometown ambience yet one is more restaraunt style and one is more self-serving.
Towson Diner: A Classic StapleAs a Loyola student with a frequent need for escape from my dorm, I've had my fair share of late breakfasts and early brunches at the Towson Diner. It is one of those places you spawn automatically after a previous late night. It's menu is the length of a small novel and there is plush vibrant seating that coats the interior. The exterior is meant to look like a classic diner you would see in the movies. My usual order is the waffle with strawberries and whipped cream or the all-day breakfast combo. It is not a fancy meal- it is just simple and classic but with big, filling portions.
The Sassy Skillet: Small and Local
Closer to THB Bagels in Towson, The Sassy Skillet is crucial when talking about a LOCAL Baltimore staple. You are given your menu when you walk in, chose your seat, and go up to the counter when you're ready to order. The first thing that will catch your eye is a wall of breakfast-themed plushies(not for sale). It is small on the inside, but a place where the staff will remember you when you return. The food leans southern, loaded omelettes, tater tots, and an "if you dare" section of the menu where the chef will bring you a mystery dish...IF YOU DARE. There is a care in how everything is made that makes it truly stand out. There is also a coffee bar that allowed me to chose my desired amount of cream and sugar, as well as given utensils and condiments.
Towson Culture
Both restaurants show off what makes Towson's food scene special: a balance between old-school comfort and cozy and local. For students like me, it is nice to have both options, eating at brunch spots like these really allow me to feel closer to my friends and Baltimore as a whole.
